Goal:
To take pictures with a dissection microscope at a few angles with sample between crossed polarizers.

Problem:
No money for automation. Other reasons cannot use Micromanager or other software interface, such as borrowing someone else's scope.

Flexibility:
A lot of working distance with 1x lens on Axiozoom.

Also, may want to add monochrome light source such as GIF (monochrome green).

We can do this now for under $100.

First version, proof of principle:

 

Goal is to get pictures like this. These pictures are pixels shown 1:1but cropped from approx 10X larger field of view.

Both for quantification of directionality and for display in color:

 

The following is more ambitious. Could be done on regular microscope using existing parts plus a camera and computer, but would be limited to one field of view, lowest mag lens 4X or 5X.
